STOCKTON PLAYS 1-1 DRAW WITH #17 SALISBURY

Brennen Fitzsimmons

Boxscore

Richard Stockton (8-6-2) played to a 1-1 draw with #17 Salisbury (8-2-3) on Homecoming. The Sea Gulls outshot the Ospreys 25-6 for the game but could only get one score. Stockton played its second of three consecutive games versus ranked opponents.

The first half saw the Ospreys take a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brennen Fitzsimmons (Neptune/Neptune), his first of the year. Fitzsimmons’ low shot came off a corner kick from Clay Gashlin (Bayville/Central Regional). The Ospreys held the lead until nearly midway through the second half.

Salisbury tied the game at the 73:26 mark on a goal by Matt Greene. His tally came on a nice give and go from Jake Perry. The Sea Gulls had a couple of chances to win the game late in regulation as Larry Cornish hit the post with 43 seconds left and Jimmy Mundy followed with a shot wide.

After some frenetic activity in the second overtime period, Stockton had one last chance but Pat Rafferty’s (Brick/Christian Brothers Academy) shot with 1:37 left was saved by Salisbury goalie John Vnenchak and the game ended in the 1-1 tie.

Stockton goalie Lou Herring (Freehold/Freehold) made six saves in gaining the tie. Vnenchak kicked out two shots for the Sea Gulls.
