STOCKTON BID TO UPSET #8 MONTCLAIR FALLS SHORT

Nancy White

Boxscore

Richard Stockton (8-6, 0-5 NJAC) had their modest two-game winning streak broken as eighth-ranked Montclair State (16-1, 4-1 NJAC) rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to snuff the Ospreys’ upset bid 4-2.

Stockton scored the first two goals of the day as Susie Balidemaj (Hamilton/Hamilton East) netted her team leading 10th goal of the season.

Nancy White (Ocean City/Ocean City) assisted on the play, which came just 7:16 into the match. Just under six minutes later, White hit the net with an unassisted tally giving the Ospreys a 2-0 lead.

The Red Hawks came right back with two goals before the half as Jennifer Tafro scored twice, including one on a penalty corner after time had expired. Devin McNamara assisted on Tafro’s second goal, which came on a shot lifted just over the outstretched arm of Stockton goalie Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp. /Freehold Twp.).

Montclair State broke the tie with two goals in the second half. Michelle Hagel struck for the go-ahead marker while the Red Hawks were a player short due to a yellow card. Hagel tapped in a feed from Brittany Carroll. McNamara tallied an insurance goal with less than four minutes remaining for the fourth and final score.

Stankiewicz made five saves in defeat for Stockton while Megan Bosland made two saves in picking up the victory for Montclair State. It was also Senior Day as White, the Ospreys’ lone senior, was honored before the game.
