Boxscore

Richard Stockton (11-6-3, 3-3-2 NJAC) downed Rutgers-Newark (11-5-2, 3-3-2) 2-1 in the regular season finale and extended their unbeaten streak to five consecutive games (3-0-2). Brennen Fitzsimmons’ (Neptune/Neptune) goal at the 66:53 mark proved to be the game-winner.

The Ospreys opened the scoring in the first half as Clay Gashlin (Bayville/Central Regional) scored on a corner kick as his serve from the flag eluded the goalkeeper and hooked directly into the net for a 1-0 lead at the half.

Rutgers-Newark tied the contest with just over 25 minutes left as Rafael Donado scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at one. Fitzsimmons took a pass from Pat Rafferty (Brick/Christian Brothers Academy) just 2:45 later and netted the eventual game-winner.

Stockton outshot Rutgers-Newark 17-7 for the game and Nick Kyprianou hit the post twice for the Scarlet Raiders, once in each half. Stockton goalkeeper Lou Herring (Freehold/Freehold) earned the victory by making just one save. Matt Lindberg made eight saves for the Scarlet Raiders in the defeat.

Stockton seniors Fitzsimmons, Herring, Randy Kohr (Upper Twp./Ocean City), Brian Thomsen (Brick/Msgr. Donovan), Sal Pistone (Blackwood/Highland), Bryan Hutches (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.), Daen McMichael (Middle Twp./Wildwood Catholic) and Noah Morris (Brick/Brick Twp.) were honored before the game as they played their last regular season game for Stockton.
