Lou Herring

Boxscore

Fifth-seeded Richard Stockton (11-6-4) was eliminated from the NJAC tournament 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 0-0 tie in a first round match at fourth-seeded Rowan (9-5-4). Because the result is recorded as a tie, the Ospreys extended their unbeaten streak to six games (3-0-3).

Stockton goalkeeper Lou Herring (Freehold/Freehold) made three saves in the match to post his third shutout of the season. Rowan outshot the Ospreys 13-8 overall and none of Stockton’s shots were on goal. Each team attempted two corner kicks in the 110 minutes of scoreless play.

Sal Pistone (Blackwood/Highland), Pat Rafferty (Brick/Christian Brothers Academy) and Brennen Fitzsimmons (Neptune/Neptune) converted Stockton’s first three penalty kicks in the shootout, but the Ospreys failed on their next three tries.

Stockton led 3-2 after three rounds and the teams exchanged misses in round four. Rowan battled back to tie the shootout 3-3 as Shane Kohler scored and then the Ospreys failed in round five. The competition moved to sudden death, where Stockton’s shot in the sixth round was saved by Rowan goalie Ryan Gill and then Christian Fountain buried his kick to eliminate the Ospreys from the NJAC tournament.
