Brittany Iveson

Richard Stockton (9-8, 0-6 NJAC) concluded the regular season with a difficult 3-2 defeat to Ramapo (11-5, 2-4) in overtime. Despite the loss, the Ospreys finished with a school-record nine victories and posted a winning record for the first time in the program’s nine-year history.

Brittany Iveson (Barnegat/Barnegat) gave Stockton a 1-0 lead with the third goal of her rookie season 19:11 into the game. Megan Irving (Oaklyn/Collingswood) assisted on the marker.

The advantage grew to 2-0 when Nancy White (Ocean City/ Ocean City) netted her ninth of the year with an assist from Alison Paulus (Westampton/Rancocas Valley) with just 57 seconds left in the first half.

Ramapo began its comeback only 20 seconds later as Nicole Kaspar scored a key goal to cut the Stockton lead to 2-1 at the break. The Roadrunners struck for the tying goal at 58:38 when Katie Bruno found the back of the cage. Neither team broke through for the game-winner in the next 11-plus minutes and overtime ensued.

Ramapo wasted little time as Amanda Barretta scored on a breakaway just 1:08 into the OT to deal Stockton the 3-2 defeat. Goaltender Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.) finished with seven saves for the Ospreys.

The disheartening loss did little to diminish the best season in the program’s history. Stockton set school records for wins (9), goals (54) and assists (38). Alicia Leadbeater (Franklinville/Delsea) set marks for assists (11) and points (31) in a season while Susie Balidemaj (Hamilton/Steinert) tied her own record for goals in a season (12).
