VELOTT VOTED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT 2 TEAM

Richard Stockton senior Christine Velott (Moorestown/ Moorestown) was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 Volleyball Team. Velott was an NCAA Division III First Team selection. She currently holds an impressive 3.55 grade point average as a History major at Stockton.

On the court, Velott is a four-time all-conference player who earned NJAC First Team honors three times (2009-11) after receiving the NJAC Rookie of the Year award and an NJAC Second Team nod 2008.

The outside hitter led Stockton to four straight NJAC championships and automatic berths in the NCAA Tournament. Velott ranks fourth all-time at Stockton with 1,406 career kills and eighth with 1,286 digs. In addition, she is a two-time NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention qualifier.

This season, Velott ranks seventh in the league in hitting percentage (.215) and 10th in kills (2.38 kps). The senior also stands second on the team in digs (2.97 dps) and service aces (0.29 saps). Stockton (25-8) will take on Emory University (34-4), who is ranked third in the nation, in an NCAA Tournament first-round match at Christopher Newport University (VA) on Friday at 3 pm.

The Capital One Academic All-District program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District Teams are divided into eight geographic regions across the USA and Canada. District 2 consists of Division III schools in Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, West Virginia and Washington D.C.

First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
