STOCKTON SWEEPS WIDENER 8-5 AND 6-4

Richard Stockton (3-1) swept a doubleheader from Widener (0-2) by scores of 8-5and 6-4. Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/ Winslow Twp.) led the Ospreys with a team-high four hits and three runs scored in the twinbill.

Barry Larro (Cedarville/Cumberland) went 2-3 with four RBI and Gerard Heininger (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) was 2-2 with two runs and two RBI in the first game. McGuckin added two hits, including a double, and two runs scored.

Stockton broke open a 2-1 game with four runs in the fourth inning. Heininger doubled in two runs, later scored unearned and Larro stroked an RBI single as the Ospreys went ahead 6-1. Widener pulled within 6-5 with four runs in the fifth stanza but Stockton answered with a run apiece in the last two innings for the 8-5 triumph.

Winning pitcher Drew Holt (Toms River/TR South) improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts in four innings. Gage Mick (Bridgeton/Cumberland) finished the game with 2.1 scoreless innings to collect his second save of the year.

Mike Wasco (Riverside/Riverside) led the way in the second game as he went 2-4 with three RBI and a run while McGuckin registered two more hits, including another double, and a run scored.

Bryan Frank (Toms River/TR East) allowed one earned run and two unearned on two hits in four innings pitched for the win. Mark Crescenzi (Penns Grove/Penns Grove) yielded one run and fanned three in the last three innings for the save.

The Ospreys rallied from a 3-1 deficit with five runs in the top of the fifth. Wasco singled in the first two tallies and later scored on a throwing error. Chris Wedding (Toms River/TR East) notched an RBI on a sacrifice bunt and Larro smacked an RBI double for a 6-3 advantage. Widener got a run back in the bottom half but Stockton held on to complete the sweep 6-4.
