STOCKTON DROPS PAIR TO MESSIAH 7-1 AND 3-2

Marc Asta

Game 1 / Game 2

Richard Stockton (3-4) dropped both ends of a Florida doubleheader to Messiah (3-5) by scores of 7-1 and 3-2. The Ospreys struggled offensively, totaling just three runs on 12 hits in the twinbill.

Mike Wasco (Riverside/Riverside) went 1-3 with a solo home run in the opener, but Stockton was limited to just four hits in the game.

Messiah got the jump on the Ospreys right away in the opener, scoring four runs on three hits, a walk and a hit batter in the top of the first.

Wasco blasted his first homer of the year in the bottom of the fourth to get Stockton on the board but Messiah added three more runs in the last three innings for the 7-1 final score.

In the nightcap, Marc Asta (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) went 3-4 with an RBI while Gerard Heininger (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) was 2-3 at the plate. Stockton finished with eight hits but left 11 runners on base in the 3-2 defeat.

Messiah took advantage of a Stockton error to score three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth and go ahead 3-0. The Ospreys came right back with two runs in the top of the fifth. Justin Gordon (Brick/Brick Memorial) scored on a passed ball and Asta stroked an RBI single to cut Stockton’s deficit to one at 3-2.

The Ospreys left one runner on base in the sixth frame and two more in the seventh as their rally fell short and they suffered their third straight defeat in the Sunshine State.
