STOCKTON ENDS FLORIDA TRIP WITH TWO WINS

Richard Stockton (9-1) concluded its weeklong stay in Florida with two more victories, defeating Curry College 3-2 and St. Lawrence 8-0 in six innings (eight-run rule).

Heather Corica (Iselin/JFK) led the Ospreys with two hits in each game and totals of three RBI and two runs on the day.

Corica went 2-4 with a double, home run and two RBI while Jessica Goncalves (Union/Union) was 2-3 with an RBI in the triumph over Curry.

Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick/North Brunswick) pitched a three-hitter with a career-high 13 strikeouts for her third win of the season.

Curry broke on top 2-0 with a pair of runs on two hits and a Stockton error in the first inning. Stockton got one run back in the top of the second as Corica led off with a solo homer.

The Ospreys pulled ahead with two runs in the fourth inning. Grace Long (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) led off with a single and Corica followed with an RBI double. Goncalves produced the go-ahead RBI with a bunt single four batters later. Pietrocola allowed just one baserunner in the last four innings as Stockton held on for the 3-2 win.

Long powered the Ospreys to victory over St. Lawrence by going 3-3 with a double, home run and three runs scored. Corica went 2-3 with a double while Goncalves and Ally Roma (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) also contributed two hits apiece.

Goncalves started the onslaught with an RBI single in the second inning and Long blasted her fourth home run of the year in the third frame for a 3-0 lead. Corica, Goncalves and Vicki DeGaetano (Hammonton/Hammonton) all stroked RBI singles during a four-run fifth inning that made it 7-0.

Stockton brought the mercy rule into effect in the bottom of the sixth. Joey Afflitto (Brick/ Brick) singled and stole second and third before an RBI double by Nichole Terreri (Deptford/Deptford) ended the game at 8-0. Jamie Gasko (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) pitched a five-hit shutout with six strikeouts.
