STOCKTON EXTENDS WINNING STREAK WITH SWEEP

Stephanie Darrow

Game 1 / Game 2

Richard Stockton (11-1) extended its winning streak to six games by sweeping a non-conference doubleheader from Hunter (3-5). The Ospreys won the opener 6-1 and rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take the nightcap 4-3.

Grace Long (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT), Danielle Kohen (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) and Joey Afflitto (Brick/Brick) finished with two hits apiece for Stockton in the first game.

Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick/North Brunswick) pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts for the win. Hunter’s Angel Iacovetti scattered seven hits and fanned six but suffered the loss.

After three scoreless innings, Julia Lipovac blasted a solo home run to give Hunter a 1-0 lead. Stockton came right back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Pinch-hitter Nicole Chabak (Marlton/Cherokee) earned an RBI with a groundout and Heather Corica (Iselin/JFK) scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error.

Stockton broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning. Kohen stroked an RBI single and Long slugged a three-run shot that hit the top of the fence and dropped over for her fifth homer of the season, making the score 6-1.

Hunter wasted little time taking the lead in the nightcap with three runs in the top of the first. The Hawks drew three consecutive walks to start the game. Kristen McGoldrick and Sophia Ponce produced runs with infield singles and a Megan O’Shea groundout brought home another run for a 3-0 lead.

Stockton left nine runners on base in the first five innings before scoring four times in the sixth frame. Stephanie Darrow (Marlton/Cherokee) ripped a bases-loaded triple that knotted the game 3-3. Darrow then scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Katelyn Derewecki (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) to put the Ospreys on top 4-3.

Winning pitcher Jamie Gasko (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) survived the rocky start and improved her record to 4-0 on the season by allowing three runs on just four hits and striking out seven.
