OSPREYS DROP OPENER 4-3, WIN NIGHTCAP 15-0

Richard Stockton (12-6) split a non-league doubleheader for the second straight day. The Ospreys were edged by Penn State Abington (10-11) 4-3 on a walk-off single but they rebounded to dominate the nightcap 15-0.

Mike Wasco (Riverside/Riverside) went 5-7 with a grand slam and six RBI on the day while Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) notched two hits in each game.

McGuckin doubled home two runs in the top of the first to give Stockton the early lead in game one. The Ospreys led 3-1 after an RBI single by Marc Asta (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) in the sixth inning.

Penn State Abington tied the contest 3-3 with two runs in the bottom half and won 4-3 on a walk-off single by Tom Ditro in the bottom of the seventh. McGuckin went 2-4 with a double and two RBI while Wasco was 2-3 with a run scored. Shawn Kessler (Bayville/Central Regional) also contributed two hits for the Ospreys.

Stockton pounded out 17 hits and rolled to a 15-0 victory in game two, led by Wasco who was 3-4 with six RBI. McGuckin and Asta each went 2-3 with a run and an RBI while Mike Bush (Manahawkin/Southern) knocked two hits and scored twice.

Wasco, Asta, and Justin Gordon (Brick/Brick Memorial) all delivered RBI singles to spark the Ospreys to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Wasco and McGuckin added RBI hits during a four-run fourth inning that doubled the advantage to 8-0.

Wasco blasted a grand slam, his third homer of the year, to highlight a five-run fifth that made the score 13-0 and Stockton tacked on two more runs in the seventh frame for the 15-0 final. Bryan Frank (Toms River/TR East) tossed a five-hit shutout with three strikeouts to earn the victory.
