STOCKTON BLANKS JOHN JAY TWICE, 10-0 AND 9-0

Richard Stockton (13-1) extended its winning streak to eight games by shutting out John Jay (3-7) 10-0 and 9-0 in a pair of five-inning (run rule) contests.

Joey Afflitto (Brick/Brick) improved her hitting streak to nine games with three extra base hits and five RBI on the day. Stockton pitchers held John Jay to just two hits total.

Grace Long (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) led the offense in game one with three hits and two runs scored. Danielle Kohen (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) was 2-3 with a double.

Jamie Gasko (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) pitched a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and also went 2-3 with three RBI at the plate. Nelly Vega had the lone hit for John Jay.

Stockton took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and doubled the advantage to 4-0 on Afflitto’s two-run homer to right center in the second frame. Gasko stroked a two-run single and the Ospreys plated three runs in the third inning for a 7-0 count. Long and Gasko added RBI singles in the fourth frame as Stockton rolled to the 10-0 victory.

Afflitto went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in the second game. Heather Corica (Iselin/JFK) added two hits, including a double, and Rachel Forte (Vineland/Vineland) was 2-3 with two runs scored for the Ospreys.

Freshman Brittany Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) tossed her third consecutive shutout in three college starts and fanned seven. Ksiezopolski allowed a leadoff double to Lana Kovac and then retired the next 15 consecutive batters.

Afflitto ripped a two-run double while Corica and Long added RBI doubles during a five-run second inning. In the third frame, Afflitto slugged another RBI double and Forte contributed an RBI single as the Ospreys tallied four more runs for the 9-0 final score.
