STOCKTON BLANKS ST. JOSEPH’S-LI TWICE, 12-0 & 4-0

Richard Stockton (16-4) posted a pair of shutouts in a non-conference doubleheader against St. Joseph’s-Long Island (10-8), winning the first game 12-0 in five innings (run rule) and the second contest 4-0.

Stephanie Hand (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) and Joey Afflitto (Brick/Brick) sparked the Ospreys with four hits apiece in the twinbill.

Hand led a 12-hit attack in the opener by going 3-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. Freshman Monica Barysh (Manalapan/Manalapan) notched her first two career hits, including a double, and Afflitto went 2-4 with a triple, RBI and a run.

Vicki DeGaetano (Hammonton/Hammonton) singled in two runs and Hand contributed an RBI double as highlights of a four-run first inning that gave Stockton an early 4-0 lead. The Ospreys took advantage of two errors and a passed ball in the second inning to double the advantage to 8-0. Hand ripped another RBI double during the outburst.

Stockton put the game away with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 12-0 final score. DeGaetano registered her third RBI of the game on a groundout while Barysh stroked an RBI double and scored on a triple by Afflitto during the inning.

Freshman pitcher Brittany Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) improved to 5-0, allowing three hits and striking out two in four innings pitched. Courtney Frisina went 1-2 with a walk for St. Joseph’s-LI.

Afflitto led the way in the nightcap as she went 2-3 with two triples, two runs and an RBI. Hand was 1-3 with a double and an RBI in the 4-0 triumph. Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick/North Brunswick) scattered seven hits and struck out eight for her second shutout of the season.

Afflitto led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Katelyn Derewecki (Hillsborough/Hillsborough). Afflitto ripped an RBI triple in the fifth inning and scored on an infield hit by Stephanie Darrow (Marlton/Cherokee). Stockton’s last run in the 4-0 win came on an RBI double by Hand in the sixth frame.

Frisina and Cassie Martinez knocked two hits apiece for St. Joseph’s-LI. Martinez also pitched a complete game and scattered seven hits but absorbed the loss.
