Boxscore

Richard Stockton (16-11, 4-4 NJAC) fell short in its quest for back-to-back victories over Rowan (19-9, 4-4) as the Profs doubled the Ospreys 4-2 in an NJAC game.

Shawn Kessler (Bayville/Central Regional) went 2-4 with a run and an RBI while Mike Bush (Manahawkin/Southern) knocked two hits for Stockton.

Rowan pounded out 13 hits in the game, led by Brandon Winkler with three safeties. Scott Bruno went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Matt Hill and C.J. Szymczak each stroked two hits and scored once for the Profs.

Rowan got on the board first, with an RBI single by Winkler giving the Profs a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Bruno singled in two runs in the fourth frame to increase Rowan’s advantage to 3-0.

Stockton capitalized on a pair Rowan errors to score two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kessler slapped an RBI single and later scored on an outfield error following Barry Larro’s (Cedarville/Cumberland) single to bring the Ospreys within 3-2. Stockton got no closer as the Ospreys managed just one hit in the last five innings.

The Profs added an insurance run in the fifth inning as Hill singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Sean Kelly for a 4-2 count that proved to be the final score. Kessler led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield hit that brought the tying run to the plate, but Stockton’s rally attempt stalled as the next three batters were retired in order.

Rowan starter Mike Behar scattered seven hits and struck out three while allowing just the two unearned runs in seven innings pitched to remain unbeaten at 4-0 on the season. After Ryan Peterson pitched a perfect eighth inning, Marc Magliaro tossed a scoreless ninth frame for the save.
