STOCKTON DROPS PAIR TO #6 KEAN, 4-3 & 2-0

Nick Scalise

Game 1 / Game 2

Richard Stockton (16-13, 4-6 NJAC) played #6 Kean (23-7, 8-2) tough in an NJAC doubleheader but the Ospreys came up a little short in each game, suffering 4-3 and 2-0 defeats. Nick Scalise (Northfield/Mainland) registered two hits in each for Stockton.

Barry Larro (Cedarville/Cumberland) went 3-4 with three doubles and two runs scored in the first game. Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) went 3-4 while Scalise was 2-5 with an RBI.

Larro led off the game with a double and scored on a double by Mike Wasco (Riverside/Riverside) for an early 1-0 lead that Kean answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Stockton went ahead 3-1 in an RBI single by Scalise and a sacrifice fly from Wasco in the third inning.

Kean took the lead at 4-3 by scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth. Stockton’s efforts to rally were stymied as the Ospreys left four runners on base in the last three innings and suffered the one-run defeat.

Although Scalise did his part by going 2-3, Stockton was limited to just five hits and fell 2-0 in the nightcap. Freshman Brett Solomen (Harrison Twp./Clearview) doubled in the seventh inning for the only extra-base hit by the Ospreys.

Kean scored single runs in the fourth and sixth frames for a 2-0 lead. The Ospreys threatened in the seventh inning as Wasco led off with a single and Solomen followed with a double to put runners on second and third with none out. The rally stalled as the next three batters were retired in order. Stockton was shut out for the first time this season in the 2-0 defeat.
