OSPREYS SWEEP NEW JERSEY CITY 9-4 & 3-0

Nichole Terreri

Game 1 / Game 2

Richard Stockton (23-13, 4-12 NJAC) earned its first conference victory since April 7 as the Ospreys went on the road and swept New Jersey City (11-25, 2-14) 9-4 and 3-0.

Nichole Terreri (Deptford/Deptford) led Stockton in the first game, going 3-5 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Joey Afflitto (Brick/Brick) also contributed a hit and two RBI.

Afflitto earned an RBI with a groundout that scored Heather Corica (Iselin/JFK) in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. The Ospreys spotted New Jersey City four unearned runs in the bottom half and faced a 4-1 deficit.

Stockton exploded for seven runs on just three hits plus two hit-by-pitches, a walk and an error in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Terreri led off with a triple and scored on an error. Nicole Chabak (Marlton/Cherokee) delivered a pinch-hit RBI single and Terreri later capped the outburst with an RBI single in her second at-bat of the inning.

Terreri added the exclamation point on the 9-4 victory with her first home run of the season, a solo blast in the seventh inning. Jamie Gasko (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) did not allow any earned runs while scattering seven hits and striking out five to earn her seventh win of the season.

Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick/North Brunswick) hurled the Ospreys to a 3-0 win in the second game as she pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for her 10th victory and fifth shutout of the season. Pietrocola’s bid for a no-hitter lasted 6.2 innings before NJCU’s first hit.

Stockton took the lead early as Grace Long (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) belted a two-run homer, her team-leading eighth blast of the season, in the top of the first. The Ospreys added another run in the second inning as Chabak walked and later stole home on the back end of a double steal for a 3-0 score.

Pietrocola allowed a two-out singles in the sixth and seventh innings but preserved the shutout. Afflitto, Stephanie Darrow (Marlton/Cherokee) and Katelyn Derewecki (Hillsborough/Hillsborough), the first three batters in the Stockton lineup, finished with two hits apiece.
