STOCKTON ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH SWEEP

Richard Stockton (25-13, 6-12 NJAC) concluded the regular season by sweeping an NJAC doubleheader from Rutgers-Newark (16-23, 3-15) 8-0 in six innings (run rule) and 10-5. The Ospreys pounded out 28 hits in the twinbill.

Katelyn Derewecki (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) led Stockton in the first game, going 3-4 with two RBI. Jamie Gasko (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) was 2-4 with three runs and Jessica Goncalves (Union/Union) also contributed two hits.

Gasko pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for the win. Monica Liotto and Monica Bagan each singled once for Rutgers-Newark.

Stockton scored its first run in the second inning. Heather Corica (Iselin/JFK) reached base on an error and later scored on another error by the Scarlet Raiders. The lead grew to 3-0 the next inning as Derewecki stroked an RBI single and Grace Long (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) lofted a sacrifice fly.

In the fifth inning, Long doubled in a run while Goncalves and Danielle Kohen (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) knocked RBI singles for a 6-0 count. In the sixth frame, Derewecki singled in a run and scored on an RBI double by Corica to end the game at 8-0 due to the run rule.

Nicole Scanlon (Colonia/Colonia) went 4-4 and Nichole Terreri (Deptford/Deptford) was 3-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBI in the nightcap. Long and Joey Afflitto (Brick/Brick) each registered two hits and three RBI. Liotto and Nicole Odell finished with two hits apiece for Rutgers-Newark.

Long singled in a run in the first inning and the Ospreys broke the game open with five runs in the second stanza. Long connected for a two-run single and Afflitto slugged a two-run triple during the big inning.

Liotto delivered an RBI single in the third frame to get Rutgers-Newark on the board. Stockton answered with four runs in the bottom half for a 10-1 lead. Terreri singled in two runs after Afflitto and Ally Roma (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) notched RBI hits.

Rutgers-Newark scored two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings. Gabby Spinella doubled and later scored on a wild pitch, followed by Odell scoring on a groundout. The next inning, Bianca Arroyo singled in two runs before the rally stalled and Stockton prevailed 10-5.

Stockton pitcher Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick/North Brunswick) allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings to improve to 11-5 on the season.
