THREE OSPREYS EARN NJAC ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

Richard Stockton seniors Mike Wasco (Riverside/Riverside), Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) and Marc Asta (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) earned NJAC All-Conference Honorable Mention selections for the 2012 baseball season.

Asta gained his second career all-conference nod while Wasco and McGuckin were chosen for the first time. The trio has helped lead the Ospreys to a third straight 20-win season thus far.

First baseman Wasco leads the team in hitting with a .373 batting average (7th in NJAC) and also has team highs of four homers (tied-7th in NJAC), 37 RBI (tied-7th in NJAC), 27 walks (tied-3rd in NJAC), a .490 on-base percentage (5th in NJAC) and a .559 slugging percentage (8th in NJAC).

Defensively, Wasco has not made an error all season in 264 chances. The lefty slugger batted .281 with team highs of 13 walks and 12 RBI plus nine runs scored in 18 conference games.

McGuckin is having a tremendous senior year as well, batting .338 with 20 runs, 19 RBI and five doubles. Twenty-four of his 48 hits so far this season came in league play, producing a .316 batting average in 18 NJAC games.

McGuckin has stolen nine bases this year, including four against NJAC opponents. He has made only two errors but has five assists from his position in right field.

Asta, who previously was named to the 2009 NJAC Second Team, is hitting .308 with 18 RBI, 14 runs and five doubles while playing mostly at designated hitter. Ten of his 18 RBI came against league foes this season, as did nine of his 12 walks and four his five stolen bases.

Asta batted .302 and registered a team-high .426 on base percentage in 18 NJAC games, striking out just six times in 53 at-bats against league pitching.
