THREE OSPREYS RECEIVE NJCBA ALL-STATE HONORS

Mike Wasco
Dan McGuckin
Gage Mick

Three Richard Stockton players earned Division II/III all-state honors from the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association.

Senior first baseman Mike Wasco (Riverside/Riverside) headed the list as he was voted to the NJCBA Division II/III All-State Second Team.

Senior rightfielder Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) was named to the NJCBA All-State Third Team for the third time in his career (2009, ’11, ’12).

Junior pitcher Gage Mick (Bridgeton/Cumberland) also was selected to the NJCBA All-State Third Team. The trio has led Stockton to a 20-17 overall record and a berth in the ECAC Metro tournament.

Wasco collected his second NJCBA honor after previously being chosen to the All-State First Team in 2010. The lefty slugger leads the Ospreys in batting (.373), RBI (37), home runs (8), walks (27), slugging percentage (.559) and on-base percentage (.490).

In addition, Wasco has handled 264 defensive chances without an error at first base for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

McGuckin is batting .338 with 20 runs, 19 RBI, five doubles and nine stolen bases. The senior ranks second on the team behind Wasco in batting and RBI and also has five assists from his position in right field.

McGuckin and Wasco were named NJAC All-Conference Honorable Mention last week.

Mick earned his first NJCBA All-State nod for his strong work on the mound. The righty has posted a 5-2 record to lead Stockton in wins, and he also tops the Ospreys with 51 strikeouts and a 2.55 ERA in a team-high 60 innings pitched.

Mick has seven starts and three complete games among his 10 appearances, but he has posted two saves out of the bullpen as well.
