Val Davison

Boxscore
Val Davison (Cranbury/Princeton) scored the game-winning goal in the second half to lift third-seeded Stockton to a 1-0 victory over second-seeded Rowan in an NJAC tournament semifinal game.  Ospreys’ goalkeeper Alex Rogers (Medford/Shawnee) made three saves for her 10th shutout of the season.  With the win, Stockton advanced to the NJAC tournament final for the first-time in the nine-year history of the tournament.  The Ospreys will face top-seeded College of New Jersey for the league championship.

Davison, part of a Stockton senior class that had been 0-4 against Rowan, volleyed a cross by Courtney Dougherty (Ocean City/Ocean City) just inside the right post at 66:30 to break the scoreless deadlock.  The match was a physical, defensive struggle in which the teams combined for few scoring chances.  Rogers made her best save in the second half on a high shot that she was able to deflect off the crossbar and then recover.  With the 1-0 victory, Rogers extended her shutout streak to 287 minutes.

23rd-ranked Stockton earned its seventh consecutive win and extended its unbeaten streak to 12 games, one short of the school-record 13-game undefeated run in 1998.  The Ospreys also pulled within one win of the school mark of 19 victories that was established in 1995.  They advanced to face an undefeated College of New Jersey team that is ranked third in the NSCAA/adidas national poll and has won seven of the eight NJAC tournaments. Stockton and TCNJ played to a 0-0 tie on September 19.
