The Stockton men’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season in its home opener, falling to Widener 69-67 on a basket at the buzzer.  The result negated Stockton’s comeback from a six-point deficit in the final 1:27 to tie the game.  Jon Greene (Wildwood/Wildwood) paced the Ospreys with 23 points and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double.  Fran Kelly (Wildwood/ Wildwood Catholic) shot 5-7 from three-point range and finished with 16 points while Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/ Neptune) also scored 16 points.

Widener led 67-61 with 1:27 remaining in the game before Hubbard sank a layup followed by a steal and dunk from Greene to pull the Ospreys within 67-65 with 44 seconds on the clock.  After Widener missed a three-pointer, Greene was fouled going to the basket and sank both pressure free throws with 4.7 ticks left to tie the game at 67.  Following a timeout, Widener raced the ball up the court and sank a running 10-foot bank shot as time expired to prevail 69-67.

Earlier in the second half, Hubbard scored eight points, Greene netted six points and Kelly drained two three-pointers during a 23-8 run that gave the Ospreys a 53-44 lead with 10:12 to play.  Widener used its pressure defense to force seven Stockton turnovers in the next eight minutes, and the Pride went on a 23-8 run of their own to go ahead 67-61 with 1:27 remaining.
