Fran Kelly (Wildwood/Wildwood Catholic) sank five three-pointers for a game-high 15 points to lead the Stockton men’s basketball team to a 67-65 victory over Baruch. Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) tossed in 13 markers while Mario Lancioni (Runnemede/Triton) and Jon Greene (Wildwood/Wildwood) finished with 11 points apiece for the balanced Stockton offense. As a team, the Ospreys were 11-24 (45.8%) from three-point range.
Baruch led 29-27 at the end of a close first half that featured six ties. Lancioni led all players with 11 first-half points on 5-8 shooting. Hubbard and Greene scored four points apiece as Stockton opened the second half with a 13-4 run that resulted in a 40-33 lead. Baruch responded by scoring 14 consecutive points for a 47-40 advantage.
The Ospreys later trailed 58-57 before taking the lead for good on a three-pointer by Kelly with 4:29 to play. Chad Davis (Millville/Sacred Heart) and Greene followed with layups to put Stockton ahead 64-58 with 3:05 remaining. Baruch pulled within two points twice in the final 1:41, but a game-winning three-point attempt by the Bearcats was off the mark at the buzzer as Stockton survived, 67-65. |
