The Stockton men’s basketball team fell to Whitworth (WA) 60-50 in the first round of the Staten Island Tournament of Heroes.  Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) was the only Stockton player in double figures, finishing with a team-high 14 points.  Mario Lancioni (Runnemede/Triton) and Fran Kelly (Wildwood/Wildwood Catholic) added nine and eight points respectively for the Ospreys, who were playing their first game in three weeks.
 
Stockton’s only two leads of the game came at scores of 14-12 and 16-14, both on baskets by Santini Lancioni (Runnemede/Paul VI).  Whitworth used a 5-0 spurt to pull ahead 19-16, and the Pirates were in front 26-22 at the half.  Trailing 37-25, Hubbard scored eight points and Kelly hit two three-pointers as Stockton went on a 14-5 run and pulled within three with eight minutes to play.  Whitworth outscored the Ospreys 7-2 over the next 3:20 for a 49-41 lead, and the Pirates went on to defeat Stockton 60-50.
