Lisa Neira (Cresskill/Cresskill) scored a game-high 18 points and dished five assists to lead the Stockton women’s basketball team to a 54-51 victory over Catholic University, which is coached by former Stockton assistant Margaret Carey.  Jenn Russell (Scotch Plains/SP-Fanwood) added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds, and Ashley Hart (Pt. Pleasant/Peddie School) tossed in seven points for the Ospreys.
 
Trailing 46-41, Stockton reeled off eight consecutive points to pull ahead 49-46 after a layup by Russell with 3:20 on the clock. After more than two scoreless minutes, Catholic tied the game at 49 on a clutch three-pointer with 1:01 remaining.  Neira then went 2-4 at the line and Hart sank two free throws to put Stockton on top 53-49.  Catholic pulled within two with seven seconds left, but Neira added a late free throw to seal the 54-51 Stockton win.
 
Catholic jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes and held a 17-8 advantage at 9:05 of the first half.  Stockton fought back and finally took its first lead at 23-22 on a free throw by Neira, who led all players with seven first-half points.  Cehara Wellington (Cherry Hill/CH East) and Jessica Wegrzynski (Bridgewater/Bishop Ahr) later closed the first half with consecutive baskets on assists by Neira for a 27-24 Stockton lead at intermission.
