The Stockton men’s basketball team nearly rallied from a 23-point deficit in the second half before falling short 83-77 in an NJAC home game against Ramapo.  Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) paced Stockton with 20 points and Jon Greene (Wildwood/Wildwood) contributed 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds.  Mario Lancioni (Runnemede/ Triton) finished with 12 points for the Ospreys, who shot just 8-28 (28.6%) from three-point range in the game.

Ramapo shot a torrid 60.7 percent from the field, including 4-5 from three-point range, in the first half.  With 5:44 on the clock, Chad Davis (Millville/Sacred Heart) scored on a layup to give Stockton a 29-26 lead, but the Roadrunners closed the half on a 13-2 run for a 39-31 lead at the break.

Ramapo continued its hot shooting in the second half and opened up a 67-44 lead.  Fran Kelly (Wildwood/Wildwood Catholic) scored five consecutive points to spark a 23-4 run that pulled Stockton within four, 71-67, with 3:11 to play.  Although Ramapo answered with six straight points to establish a 10-point cushion at the 2:19 mark, Stockton had one more rally attempt.  During an 8-1 spurt, Hubbard hit two three-pointers 35 seconds apart to cut Ramapo’s lead to three at 78-75 with 32 seconds left, but the Ospreys could get no closer in the 83-77 defeat.
