The Stockton women’s basketball team fell short in its quest for a third consecutive win as the Ospreys were outscored 76-65 by Rutgers-Newark.  Lisa Neira (Cresskill/Cresskill) shot 8-10 from the field and 4-4 at the line for a game-high 21 points.  Kim Herriger (Howell/Msgr. Donovan) scored a career-high 15 points while Ashley Hart (Pt. Pleasant Beach/Peddie School) shot 3-3 from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points.
 
Stockton suffered through a scoring drought of 3:37 while Rutgers-Newark reeled off 10 unanswered points for a 21-9 lead midway through the first half.  The Scarlet Raiders continued to pull away, and Stockton faced a 49-29 deficit at the break despite a game-high 11 first-half points from Neira, who shot 3-3 from the floor and 4-4 at the line in the period.
 
After trailing by as much as 24 points in the second half, Stockton got within 65-50 on a basket by Neira with 8:59 remaining.  The Ospreys were unable to cut into their deficit any further until the final minute, when Herriger sandwiched two buckets around a three-pointer by Hart for the 76-65 final score.
