The Stockton men’s basketball team outlasted Manhattanville 84-71 in the Ospreys’ final regular season home game. Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) led a balanced attack with 15 points plus a game-high seven rebounds and Mario Lancioni (Runnemede/Triton) added 13 points. Santini Lancioni (Runnemede/Paul VI) and Kevin Brown (Neptune/Neptune) netted 11 points apiece and Jon Greene (Wildwood/Wildwood) scored 10 points.
There were five ties and five lead changes during a close first half in which neither team led by more than five points. Santini Lancioni hit two three-pointers during an 8-0 run that gave Stockton a 34-29 lead late in the half. The Ospreys led 36-32 at the break after Chad Davis (Millville/Sacred Heart) scored the final points of the period on a layup with 1:27 remaining.
Stockton opened the second half with an 11-1 spurt behind four points apiece by Mario Lancioni and Greene for a 47-33 advantage. After Manhattanville pulled within eight points, 49-41, the Ospreys broke the game open with a 12-3 run that was capped by a Santini Lancioni layup for a 61-44 lead with 9:51 to play. From there, Stockton led by at least 11 points for the rest of the game to post an 84-71 victory. |
