The Stockton lacrosse team began the 2008 season with a 14-7 defeat at Wesley. Keith Bologno (Glen Gardner/ Voorhees) led the Stockton offense with two goals and three assists, and Jonathan Kelly (Howell/Howell) tallied two goals and one assist for the Ospreys. Sophomore goalie Pete Marcelliano (Morristown/West Morris Mendham) made his first career start and finished with eight saves.
Kelly scored consecutive goals in the first quarter to give Stockton an early 3-2 lead, but Wesley reeled off five straight goals to pull ahead 7-3. After Bologno netted a goal to halt the run and get the Ospreys within 7-4, Wesley broke the game open with four more tallies for an 11-4 count early in the third quarter. From there, Stockton could only get as close as six goals, 11-5, after Steve Mazurek (Jackson/Jackson) scored with 9:03 left in the third quarter. Wesley outscored the Ospreys 3-2 the rest of the way and doubled up Stockton 14-7. |
