The Stockton lacrosse team opened up a four-goal lead in the fourth quarter and held off Catholic University 7-6 for its first victory of the season. Matt Bell (Jackson/Jackson) led the Ospreys with two goals and one assist while Jonathan Kelly (Howell/Howell) and Steve Mazurek (Jackson/ Jackson) netted two goals apiece. Stockton goalie Pete Marcelliano (Morristown/West Morris Mendham) notched 15 saves for the win.
Bell scored two goals in the first half and Kelly added one to stake Stockton to a 3-1 lead at the break. In the third quarter, Catholic sandwiched two goals around a marker by Mazurek but the Ospreys still held a one-goal lead, 4-3, after three periods.
Mazurek, Kelly and Alec Chisholm (Jackson/Jackson) scored three consecutive Stockton goals to give the Ospreys a 7-3 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Catholic responded with three goals in a two-minute span to pull within 7-6, but the Stockton defense protected the lead and the Ospreys prevailed by one, 7-6. |
