Shepherd Earns All-American Honors at NCAA Championships

Lisa Shepherd

High Jump results / Pole Vault results
Stockton sophomore Lisa Shepherd (Mays Landing/ Oakcrest) finished second in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships to become an All-American for the second time in her young career.  The meet was held at Ohio Northern University.  Shepherd jumped 1.69 meters (5’6.50”) to place second behind national champion Crystal Blamy of Keene State (NH) who won at a height of 1.72 meters (5’7.75”).

Shepherd cleared 1.69 meters on her final attempt, establishing a new personal best and school record.  That jump extended the competition with Blamy, who eventually won by going over the bar at the next height of 1.72 meters, which was the best jump in Division III all season.  Shepherd collected her second All-American honor, with the first coming on an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships last spring.

Freshman Victoria Barden (Bayville/Central) placed 16th in the high jump in her first appearance at the NCAA Championships by clearing the bar at 1.56 meters (5’1.25”), which was the initial height of the competition.  Tony DeFeo (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) competed in the men’s pole vault for Stockton but failed to clear the starting height of 4.67 meters.
