Manhattanville 3, Stockton 2

Kayla Cappadocia

Richard Stockton nearly pulled off a comeback before falling short 3-2 in its season opener at Manhattanville.  The Ospreys trailed 3-0 before cutting their deficit to one in the second half.  Gabrielle Palermo (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) and Kayla Cappadocia (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) scored one goal apiece for Stockton.  Starting goalie Debi O’Kane (Cologne/Absegami) played the first half and made three saves.  Freshman Christine Harvey (Edgewood, MD/ Aberdeen) recorded four saves in the second half.
Manhattanville scored twice in the first half and added its third goal early in the second stanza for a 3-0 lead.  Palermo got Stockton on the board with an unassisted goal at 48:03.  Just 30 seconds later, Cappadocia scored with an assist from Katie Mattsson (Brick/Brick Twp.) to suddenly pull the Ospreys within one goal at 3-2.  Stockton was unable to complete the comeback as Manhattanville stifled the rally and held off the Ospreys for the 3-2 final.
