Stockton Competes at Gettysburg Battlefield Classic

Richard Stockton (5-3) played a total of four matches in the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic over the weekend.  On Friday, the Ospreys suffered their first loss of the season to McDaniel 25-22, 16-25, 27-25, 20-25, 15-9 but they responded with a 23-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-20 win over Scranton.  Christine Aletras (Ridgewood/Ridgewood) led Stockton with two-match totals of 94 assists and 45 digs, including 50 assists in the victory over Scranton.  Audrey O’Donnell (Bogota/Immaculate Heart) totaled 31 kills and 11 blocks, including 19 kills against Scranton.  Amanda Burkart (Cresskill/Cresskill) contributed 27 kills and 35 digs in the two matches.
 
After winning its three-team pool on a tiebreaker, Stockton then dropped both of its matches against tough competition on Saturday.  First, the Ospreys were edged by Salisbury 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14.  Burkart tallied 13 kills, 10 digs and two aces while Christine Velott (Moorestown/Moorestown) finished with 11 kills and 13 digs in the match. 
 
Next, Stockton fell to Johns Hopkins 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 26-24 in its final match of the 18-team, two-day tournament.  O’Donnell led the Ospreys with team-highs of 18 kills and seven blocks while Velott registered 13 kills and 16 digs in the match.  O’Donnell was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of play.
