Rutgers-Camden 2, #15 Stockton 1 (2OT)

Mike Holmes

Boxscore
Second-seeded Richard Stockton (15-5-1) was eliminated from the NJAC Tournament with a 2-1 defeat to third-seeded Rutgers-Camden (16-3-2) in double overtime.  Mike Holmes (Toms River/TR North) scored the lone goal for the Ospreys and Stockton goalkeeper Matt Hart (Dayton/South Brunswick) registered three saves.  The outcome denied Stockton its first trip to the conference final since 2004 and ended its four-game winning streak.

Rutgers-Camden took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, ending Stockton’s shutout streak of 344 minutes and Hart’s personal scoreless run of 254 minutes.  Stockton responded quickly as six minutes later the Ospreys tied the game at 1-1 off a corner kick from Sean Nelson (Toms River/TR South).  After Nelson’s corner kick got loose in the box, Mike Holmes (Toms River/TR North) finished off the play, chipping it into the net for his second goal of the season.

Each team had one quality scoring chance in the first overtime. Pat Tolomeo (Ocean City/Ocean City) hit the post on a 20-yard shot and Hart roamed from the goal and smothered a low shot by Rutgers-Camden.  The Scarlet Raptors ended the match on a shot from just outside the box with 1:08 remaining in the second overtime.  The shot deflected off a Stockton defender and floated over the head of a defenseless Hart, eliminating the Ospreys in the NJAC semifinals, 2-1.
