#23 Marymount 86, Stockton 48 | ||
Richard Stockton (0-1) was dominated 86-48 by 23rd-ranked Marymount (1-0) in the first round of the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off. Stockton freshman Katey Charmello (South Amboy/South Amboy) sank four three-pointers for a team-high 12 points in her first college game. Cynthia Rivera (North Bergen/North Bergen) scored 11 points and Melissa Marchitelli (Jackson/Jackson) netted 10 points for the Ospreys. Marymount opened the game with eight unanswered points before Marchitelli connected on a jumper at 16:45 to get Stockton on the board. The Ospreys trailed 34-9 before using a 14-3 run to pull within 37-23 late in the half. Charmello drained two three-pointers and Rivera nailed two jumpers during the spurt. Marymount closed the half with a 16-2 run for an insurmountable 53-25 advantage at the half. Charmello paced Stockton with nine first-half points. The Osrpeys was unable to mount a serious rally in the second half. They trailed by at least 28 points for the entire period and suffered the season-opening 86-48 defeat. |
