Neumann 61, Stockton 51 | ||
Richard Stockton (0-2) fell victim to a late scoring drought and was defeated 61-51 by Neumann (1-1) in the second round of the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off. Ashley Hart (Pt. Pleasant Beach/Peddie School) and Monique Garcia (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) led the Ospreys with eight points apiece. Jenn Russell (Scotch Plains/SP-Fanwood) tallied seven points plus team highs of nine rebounds and four blocks. Stockton took its only lead of the first half at 21-20 on a three-point play by LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/Overbrook) with 5:04 on the clock. Neumann responded with an 8-1 spurt for a 28-22 advantage but Stockton netted the final four points of the half, including three by Alyssa Reiter (Sewell/Gloucester Catholic), to pull within 28-25 at intermission. Oliver led the Ospreys with five first-half points. The second half featured six lead changes and four ties. Stockton opened up a 35-30 lead after a three-pointer by Hart and the Ospreys later were on top 48-44 after a three-point play by Russell with 8:07 remaining. Stockton did not score again until the 36-second mark as Neumann reeled off 13 consecutive points for a 57-48 advantage. Hart finally ended the drought with a three-pointer to pull Stockton within six, but Neumann hit four late free throws for the 61-51 final. |
