King's 56, Stockton 43

Richard Stockton (0-3) was outscored 31-18 in the second half and suffered a 56-43 defeat to King’s (1-2) on the final day of the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off.  Cynthia Rivera (North Bergen/North Bergen) scored a team-high 12 points for Stockton and was named to the All-Tournament Team.  Jenn Russell (Scotch Plains/SP-Fanwood) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds while LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/ Overbrook) tallied eight points and a game-high 17 boards for the Ospreys.

Stockton trailed 19-5 midway through the first half, but the Ospreys went on a 20-6 run the rest of the way and the game was tied 25-25 at the half.  Oliver scored eight points and Rivera netted seven markers during the spurt.  Oliver also finished the half with 14 of Stockton’s 28 rebounds in the period to nearly equal the Monarchs’ team total of 18 boards. 

King’s scored the first eight points of the second half for a 33-25 advantage.  The Monarchs opened up a 44-30 lead with 11:55 remaining, but Russell led Stockton back within 46-43 by scoring eight points during a 13-2 run over the next eight minutes.  The Ospreys could not sustain the momentum and went scoreless over the final 3:50 as King’s reeled off 10 unanswered points and dealt Stockton the 56-43 defeat.
