Montclair State 77, Stockton 70

Richard Stockton (3-12, 0-5) came up short 77-70 in its effort to snap a Montclair State (11-4, 6-0) winning streak that has reached 10 games. LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/Overbrook) paced the Ospreys with a career-high 22 points and nine rebounds. Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT/New Britain) contributed 12 points and nine boards while Monique Garcia (Atlantic City/ Atlantic City) tallied 10 points plus team highs of four assists and four steals.

Garcia sank a layup for an early 13-10 edge that proved to be Stockton’s final lead of the game. Montclair responded with a 19-5 run that put the Red Hawks on top 29-18. Laura Grow (Bensalem, PA/Archbishop Ryan) scored all five of her points during an 8-2 spurt that brought the Ospreys within 31-26. Garcia later hit a jumper with five seconds left in the first half to end the period with Stockton facing a 38-32 deficit.

Montclair State took its largest lead at 65-51 with 6:19 to play, however Stockton produced a determined rally effort. Aliyah Nelson (Pleasantville/St. Joseph) scored five points and keyed a 15-6 run that Ashley Hart (Pt. Pleasant Beach/Peddie School) ended with a three-pointer, pulling the Ospreys within 71-66. Two Montclair free throws were answered with a layup from Garcia that trimmed the deficit to five at 73-68 with 21 seconds remaining, but the Red Hawks went 4-6 at the line for the 77-70 final.
