Stockton 72, Rutgers-Camden 64

Richard Stockton (7-18, 4-9) ended the 2008-09 season on a high note with a 72-64 victory over Rutgers-Camden (2-22, 0-13). LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/Overbrook) concluded a strong rookie season with game highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Fellow freshman Jenny Fitzgerald (Rockaway/Morris Catholic) registered career highs of 13 points and eight boards while senior Kelley Guarrera (Shamong/Shawnee) added nine points in her final game.

Guarrera netted five early points and keyed Stockton to a 13-2 lead. After Rutgers-Camden closed within 17-14, Fitzgerald tallied three markers during a five-point burst that put the Ospreys ahead 22-14. Alyssa Reiter (Sewell/ Gloucester Catholic) later scored her only four points of the game as part of an 8-1 spurt that gave Stockton an 11-point cushion (32-21). The lead grew to 12 before Rutgers-Camden scored the final six points of the half and cut Stockton’s edge to 38-32 at intermission.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raptors rallied to tie the score at 46, but Oliver answered with a layup to begin a six-point spree that established a 52-46 lead for the Ospreys. Rutgers-Camden battled back again and briefly pulled ahead 57-56 before Fitzgerald tallied four consecutive points during a key 8-1 run that clinched the victory. Stockton led 64-58 with 4:10 to play and stayed in front by at least four points down the stretch to close the season with a 72-64 triumph.
