Richard Stockton (1-0), ranked 20th in the NSCAA national preseason poll, held off Muhlenberg (0-1) 2-1 in the season opener for both teams. 2008 All-Metro Region selections Pat Tolomeo (Ocean City/Ocean City) and Sean McCallum (Vineland/Vineland) scored second-half goals to lead the Ospreys to victory. Stockton was outshot 19-5 but winning goalkeeper Anthony Pompei (Hamilton/Hamilton West) recorded seven saves and held Muhlenberg scoreless until the last four minutes of the game.

Late in the first half, Sean Nelson (Toms River/TR South) prevented Stockton from falling behind by heading the ball away from an open net just before it crossed the line. The Ospreys broke through early in the second half as Tolomeo scored Stockton’s first goal of the season with an assist by Rafael Duarte (Ocean City/ Ocean City) at 53:24. The Ospreys doubled their advantage to 2-0 when McCallum tallied an unassisted goal at 66:12. Muhlenberg spoiled Pompei’s shutout bid and pulled within 2-1 on a late marker at 86:42 but Stockton held off the Mules for the season-opening victory.
