Stockton Splits Four Matches at Gettysburg

Richard Stockton (2-2) opened the 2009 season by splitting four matches at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic. Christine Velott (Moorestown/Moorestown), the 2008 NJAC Rookie of the Year, was named to the All-Tournament Team. On Friday, the Ospreys began with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 sweep of Northland before falling to Randolph-Macon 25-12, 25-23, 25-20. Play continued on Saturday with Stockton being downed by Geneva 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 and defeating Gallaudet 25-8, 21-25, 25-10, 25-20.

Velott led the Ospreys in kills in each match, posting a high of 14 slams versus Randolph Macon and finishing the tournament with 42 kills. Laura Hausman (Bethlehem, PA/ Catasauqua) was the top setter for Stockton with 64 assists, including 21 in the win over Northland. Defensively, Christine Astarita (Selden, NY/Newfield) paced Stockton in digs in every contest and totaled 56 digs while freshman Stephanie Warner (Totowa/Passaic Valley) notched a team-high eight blocks.
