Wesley 3, Stockton 1

Katie Mattsson

Boxscore
Richard Stockton (1-3) took an early lead before falling to Wesley (4-0) 3-1 after the Ospreys yielded three goals in the final 18 minutes of the game. Katie Mattsson (Brick/Brick Twp.) scored her second goal of the season on Stockton’s only shot of the match. Goalkeeper Debi O’Kane (Cologne/ Absegami) recorded seven saves for the Ospreys. Wesley outshot Stockton 19-1 and attempted 22 penalty corners to just three for the Ospreys.

Mattsson re-directed a pass from Gabrielle Palermo (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) into the cage to give Stockton an unlikely 1-0 lead just 10:02 into the game. Although pressured, O’Kane and the Osprey defense kept Wesley off the board for the rest of the half and Stockton held a one-goal edge at the break. Wesley dominated the second half, outshooting Stockton 14-0 and attempting 17 penalty corners. The Wolverines finally broke through for the game-tying goal with 17:12 remaining. They took the lead 10 minutes later and added a late tally just 40 seconds before the horn for the 3-1 final score.
