Stockton Wins Once at Salisbury Invitational

Richard Stockton (7-5) won one of its four matches against stiff competition at the Salisbury Invitational. On Friday evening, the Ospreys were swept by Salisbury, which also knocked Stockton out of the NCAA Tournament last year, 25-20, 25-19, 25-15. The Ospreys then fell to Allegheny 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 27-25. Christine Velott (Moorestown/Moorestown) paced Stockton with seven kills versus Salisbury and 17 kills against Allegheny. Velott was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The tournament continued on Saturday with Stockton splitting a pair of five-set matches. The Ospreys fell to 22nd-ranked Haverford 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 19-25, 15-9 but rallied past Baldwin-Wallace (OH) 26-28, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-10 for their lone victory of the tournament. Stephanie Warner (Totowa/Passaic Valley) led Stockton with 13 kills against Haverford and 12 kills versus Baldwin-Wallace, plus three blocks apiece in each match.

Also on Saturday, Anna Streicher (Marlton/Cherokee) contributed 10 kills in the first match and 11 kills in the second contest. Christine Astarita (Selden, NY/Newfield) scooped 21 digs against Haverford and 34 digs in the victory over Baldwin-Wallace.
