Friend Profile: Dr. Peter Yiannos

Born in Ayos Sostis of Messenia(Peloponnesos) in 1932. Immigrated to the US in 1951 as a Displaced Person under The Truman Doctrine, sponsored by his maternal uncle Peter Valos of Alton, IL.

He studied Chemical Engineering at the Univ. of Missouri and did graduate work in Wisconsin, receiving a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Lawrence U. (The Institute of Paper Science and Technology).

After worked for 35+ years for Scott Paper in Philadelphia as a professional and R&D manager, he retired early in 1994 from the position of VP in Technology.

He was published in numerous publications in technical journals, including a number of patents, as well as publications in non-technical journals.

Dr. Yiannos passed away on July 2nd, 2012. He will always be remember for his many contributions to Hellenic Studies, and for the tremendous pride he had in his work, family and heritage.
