South Saturn Delta Blues Band
March 1 • Monday • 7:30pm
in Alton Auditorium
South Saturn Delta Blues Band’s music has been called “Swamp-a-delic, funky, edgy, rhythm and blues with a twist of jazz.”
South Saturn Delta is an inspired group of artists who habitually “drink from the well” that is the reservoir of American roots music, allowing it to infuse and inspire artistically when writing original compositions and re-interpreting song. The sound of this group electrifies and generates an emotional intensity that is sometimes cathartic, sometimes triumphant, and always rewarding.

Bay-Atlantic Symphony
“Disguised As A Child”
March 7 Sunday 2 PM
*Conversation with the Conductor at 1 PM on the Main Stage
Disguised as a Child is BAS’s most ambitious program for the season,
despite the deceptive title. All the pieces spring from a childhood innocence,
and yet are some of the richest works in the repertoire. Barber’s Knoxville:
Summer of 1915 is based upon James Agee’s prologue to his great novel
A Death in the Family. Knoxville calls forth, in the most simple and evocative
way, the state of consciousness that Agee so gently and powerfully conveys.
Mahler’s Fourth Symphony represents clarity of expression that bursts
with more emotion and beautiful themes than perhaps any other of his
symphonies. Bizet leads us back to this world’s seeming simplicity through
his affectionate, perfect sketches of scenes of games we’d almost forgotten.
Each piece is breath-taking.
$25 Adults and Seniors
$15 Children (under 12 with adult ticket)

Bay-Atlantic Symphony
“Retro and Barbaric”
May 2 Sunday 2 PM
With Bay-Atlantic Symphony concert master and principal cellist as gifted as
Ruotao Mao and Jie Jin, it was only a matter of time to bring them together as
soloists. And what could be better than Brahms’ warmly-hued, passionate
Double Concerto? With it, the performances provide an ultimate contrast:
Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas’s rhythmic, obsessive depiction of
Mayan sacrifice. Think of it as The Rite of Spring and even more explosive,
yet filled with entrancing music in every bar. This hugely varied program both
astonishes and captivates.
