In this award-winning play we meet Evelyn Briggs and her three daughters, a dramatically dysfunctional family living in Independence, Iowa. Family ties are stretched to the breaking point when Jo, the “good girl” and middle child of the family, becomes pregnant. Comedy Tonight<mare>!!
February 13 - 17 • Wednesday - Saturday • 7:30 PM / Sunday • 3 PM

This eclectic evening of student-directed short plays features David Ives’ “Foreplay, or the Art of the Fugue,” “Sure Thing” and “Variations on The Death of Trotsky,” and Christopher Durang’s “An Actor’s Nightmare.” Ives renders the familiar strange: miniature golf is mixed with a mating game, a first encounter is replayed to perfection, and the Russian revolutionary relives his last day – over and over and over! Durang’s “An Actor’s Nightmare” presents an accountant who finds himself trapped in a hallucinatory performance, not knowing his lines or even which part he’s playing!

“The world according to David Ives is a very odd place, and his plays constitute a virtual stress test of the English language-and of the audiences’s capacity for disorientation and delight.”

The year is 1850 when widower Ephraim Cabot brings a new young wife back to his New England farm. His son Eben, expecting to be disinherited, despises his new stepmother at first. But when contempt turns to lust, the foundations of the Cabot family’s world begin to crumble.
