Audio and Video Clips

About 1978, Bill Daly interviewed Dick Bjork -- the first President of the College -- about the founding of the College and the problems it faced in the early years. These interviews -- listed below -- cover significant issues like the Faculty Strike in 1973, the power of the Board, the types of students we attracted, the hiring of faculty and the organization of the College. There are four parts:
In 1982, Bill Daly interviewed Peter Mitchell on the eve of his departure from the Presidency of Stockton. These four audio files cover a wide range of issues from Mitchell's tenure as President.
Magda Leuchter was a member of the Stockton Board of Trustees beginning in 1970. In December of 2009, Ms. Leuchter was interviewed by Melissa Hager.
Dave Taylor was the first President of the Stockton Board of Trustees (1969) and he served for many years on the Board. This interview was conducted in April, 2010.

- Frank "Hap" Farley was a local politician from the late 1930s until the early 1970s. He was a major figure in the political creation of the college. The video here was recorded in 1973 by Bob Hughey and Herb Simmens for their classes. At the beginning of an hour interview, Farley talks about his role in getting the money for the college. That is the part of the interviewed excerpted here. The beginning of the original is very dark but the sound track is important so it was kept. After the introduction the quality becomes better. - 1n 1995 -- apparently just before the beginning of the Fall term -- faculty gathered to discuss the early years of the College. The discussion is chaired by Cindy Jassel (I believe she was also Moderator of the Faculty Assembly that Fall). Various faculty spoke: Bill Daly, Ralph Bean, Bill Gilmore, Sandy Hartzog, Dick Thomas, Hal taylor, Demitrius Constantelos, Claude Epstein, Bob Helsabeck, Al Steinberg, Dick Colby, Shelby Broughton, Roger Wood, Bill Lubenow and Joe Walsh. - The Myths and Legends Series -- This series was originated by Prof. Mike Hozik and the students of the Honors Program. The concept was to preserve anecdotes from the earliest years of the College by providing an opportunity -- and a soapbox -- for original faculty to narrate their memories of the founding of the College. They have organized an event in the fall of the last four years. Each video is about an hour in length.
