James McCarthy graduated in 1976 with a BS degree in Environmental Science from Stockton. While working as a Land Use Planner he became interested in automated spatial analysis, computer cartography and computer programming. In 1981 he completed a bachelors degree in Information and Systems Science and later earned a MS degree in Software Engineering. In 1986 he accepted the position of Director of the Stockton’s Computer Services Department. He currently serves as Associate Provost for Computing and Communications.
