The Flipped Classroom: Rethinking the Way You Teach

Powering the flipped classroom with technology and techniques that work

Lecture, test, assign, dismiss—lather, rinse, repeat

It’s time to turn your teaching on its head with the flipped classroom.

A flipped classroom consists of lecture outside class and active engagement inside class. You’ll move traditional lecture-based information onto the web to create time for activities in class.

Teachers who flip their classrooms open possibilities for new types of active learning, but what are the options and which ones work best?

In this seminar you will examine the technology that facilitates the flip, explore the types of active learning possible in the newly liberated face-to-face time, and put the flipped model in context with what is known about how learning works in the brain.

Educators will learn to:

  • Apply to the flipped classroom knowledge of how the student brain works
  • Improve learning with technology that flips the classroom
  • Identify technological tools that can improve learning in higher education
  • Design course assignments that more effectively incorporate technology
  • Implement a flipped classroom that enhances student learning
