TED is an organization devoted to the spreading of information in formal talks called TED talks, where TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxStocktonUniversity, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxStocktonUniversity event, TED videos and live speakers will spark deep discussion and connection around compelling themes and issues. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
TEDxStocktonUniversity 2016 is the first time Stockton will host a TEDx conference. Since Stockton has been designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a Community Engaged Institution, it was instinctive to include the local community in this opportunity.
To showcase this engagement, the TEDxStocktonUniversity Organizing Committee decided on the theme of “important connections” for the 2016 conference. This theme encompasses a broad range of possible topics and perspectives. From connections between neurons in the brain to an institution’s impact on its local community; from the harmony that is an orchestral piece to the ins and outs of international economics; we look forward to the varied insights our speakers will bring to this theme.
We expect between 6 and 8 presenters to speak at our 3 hour event. The TEDxStocktonUniversity Organizing Committee will vet all proposals and notify everyone who submits whether or not his/her proposal was selected by January 21. Successful entries will establish a strong relationship with the conference theme, be easily understood by a diverse audience, and excite attendees to extend the conversation to others beyond the conference.
In order to share presenters’ ideas, we will film each talk. Because of this we require that each speaker sign a waiver to permit filming. All talks will be displayed on the TEDx YouTube channel.
TEDxStocktonUniversity 2016 will take place on March 22, 2016 in the Campus Center Theater at Stockton University’s Galloway, New Jersey campus from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. This will be a ticketed event, with a maximum attendance of 100 people due to TEDx rules. Food and refreshments will be available for speakers and attendees in the Grand Hall.
