One aspect of geology is the study of rocks. Accordingly, Stockton has facilities for cutting and preparing rocks for study. Shown here is a large rock saw.
Shown here is a small, well-used, trim saw.
Shown here is a machine for the cutting and grinding of thin sections. Thin sections are slabs of rock, glued to a glass plate, and ground thin enough to allow light to pass through them. The details of the rock texture can then be examined on a microscope.
This view shows students in a Petrology (literally, the study of rocks) class using microscopes to examine thin sections and discussing their observations. |
